Ideally I’d finish the combining process and then split everything into separate libraries by year and keep the current year on an external SSD syncing to iCloud. I have M1 MBP 16GB 2TB, but libraries are spread across multiple external HD. I’ve been trying for years to get everything into one library (I’ll use PowerPhotos), and I’m not terribly far away, but it’s taking a couple of restarts each day to pull in the final few Takeout folders before I start combining libraries, and I worry this may never work.
TL DR start here I have multiple Apple Photos libraries with hundreds of thousands of photos and probably 10TB or more of space among them. I tried to start a new library in 2021, but that was when I had COVID-19 and the flu (same time, it was awesome), and my neurological issues worsened. Factor in that I spent some time with Android resulting in 35 Takeout folders.
I now have a neurological disease and cannot operate a camera or even hold one reliably (looking at a gimbal to mount to wheelchair), so I’ve spent a lot more time staring at the absolute mess I’ve made by never taking the time to cull the thousands of pictures taken at each lacrosse tournament, basketball games, Boy Scouts, gymnastics showcases, choir events, etc. My kids have played sports and had other activities, and I’ve always tried to be there taking pictures.
